Dragon Dance

The children from 3rd grade made a Chinesses dragon and then presented the dance, to celebrate their learning of the IPC unit: Different places, similar lives. They had a great time learning about the Chinesses dance.

Exploradores Espaciales

New IPC Units have been launched in Primary.

Prepa children have been working on the unit: The Things People Do. They have been learning about the grown-up world of work. The children have had the opportunity to have their parents in school and talk to them about their work. We have had a veterinarian, a chef, a doctor and a dentist.

In 1^st grade the children are learning about the different celebrations celebrated around the world. How celebrations are an important part of human life and that all people and cultures, from every part of the world, take part in and hold celebrations to mark special events and special times into their lives.

2^nd grade students have been learning about Paintings, Pictures and Photographs. The big idea of the unit is that we see visual images all around us every day and they are produced for a variety of purposes. Some help us by providing important information, some entertain us, some are a record of an event or person at one time and some advertise. We need to be able to interpret and use all different forms of visual representations in our daily lives.

On Friday November 29^th the 3^rd grade students are having their Entry point on the unit: Gateways to the world. The children will be learning about how millions of people take to the skies, making journeys in airplanes and how air travel helps to connect people around the world.

4^th graders have begun learning about: Space Explorers, they will be studying the Sun, the Moon and the Stars and the effects they have on Earth. They will also be learning about Astronomy, like all sciences it’s all about asking questions. By becoming Space Explorers they will find out more about our Solar System and the deeper mysteries of the universe.

In 5^th grade the students will soon begin the study on Drug Education. They will study how legal and illegal drugs affect how the mind and body works and the risks associated with them.

2nd grade children visit: Museo Marte

The 2nd grade children went to Museo Marte to learn about Salvadorean painters and artists. Quotes from 2nd grade children: Andres R: "I learned about the importance of different colours in paintings. Red colour in paintings makes 3_D pictures look very real." Andres G: " I learned different things about Art. The most interesting thing is learning about perception. This is the way which people see things. I learned about sub- realism as well. Sub- realism is real things mixed with nature and together they make things that are not real.

Prepa: IPC Unit: The Things People Do

We just started our new IPC Unit on “The Things People Do”. We had the opportunity to visit our Children’s Museum Tin Marín. Children were exposed to different types of jobs people do and had the opportunity to role play as if they were one of them. This will help children develop the personal skills they need to take an active part in the world through their lives, as they grow.

3rd grade Exit Point Do you live around here

Third graders had a very exciting exit point. They visited the school's construction site and talked with the engineer in charge, they also welcome architect David Sanchez who gave a lecture about the different stages of construction. If that was not enough, they made concrete blocks, build shelters, produced a booklet about the unit and began making a baharaque-clay house.

2nd Grade Entry Point: Paintings, pictures and photographs

As part of their Entry Point the 2nd grade children made their own painting in the style of Jackson Pollock.

Great learning, great fun

1st grade children used their creativity to make a model of their teeth using plasticine.They learned that humans have 3 types of teeth.

Parts of a plant and classifying animals

1st grade children learning about the parts of a plant in a creative way. They made a poster using different types of paper and then they classified animals into meat and plant eaters using a Venn Diagram.

Designing and making pizza

1st graders learning through the IPC UNIT: We are what we eat. The children had to design their favorite pizza and then they had the chance to make and eat their own pizza creation.

Learning about teeth

1st grade children learning that humans have 3 types of teeth, which are the incisors, canines and molars. They also learned the right way to brush their teeth.

Festival of the Corn

1st grade children learning through the IPC UNIT: We are what we eat. The children learned about our traditional festivals and about one of our mayor products the corn. they learned how to make our traditional pupusas and our famous Elotes locos.

As part of our Exit Point for the IPC Unit What's on the Menu?" children had  to create and present a Healthy Snack in a fun and interesting way so it would be appealing for others to try it. They all decided to create their own Healthy Sundae! Instead of having chocolate ice-cream they changed it into vanilla ice-cream. They used strawberry and grape jam instead of chocolate fudge and various fruit as toppings! They enjoyed preparing their sundae and of course eating it!

Welcome to a new year in the IPC.

This year promises to be a very exciting year in your children's learning. These are the units the children will be learning in the 1st term of school.

Exit Point Myths and Legends

On Friday 7th the children from fourth grade celebrated their learning on the unit "Myths and Legends". We used all of their research and learning which took place over the unit to put on a "Myths and Legends Epic Extravaganza". Children from second grade were invited to come to the exhibition and the fourth graders had to share their learning. They also had the experience on archery like Robin Hood. During lunchtime they shared their traditional family recipes, and at the end of the day we had a "Titans tug-of-war".

Myths and Legends, Archery Practice

Robin Hood is one of the characters we have been learning about in IPC. The children learnt the basic archery techiniques and experienced how it feels to be a real archer.

Entry Point Inventions that Changed the World

Children at the Academia Británica Cuscatleca had the opportunity to discover and manipulate different objects that have been invented during the last century. They were exposed to real life objects such as soda bottles, record players, cameras and radios from the beginning of the 1900's century!

Exit Point Active Planet

As part of out Exit Point, 2nd Graders from Academia Britanica Cuscatleca from El Salvador, went to El Boquerón, a volcano located in San Salvador. We also visited Lava Fields near Quezaltepeque and had the opportunity to walk along a real lava rock trail!

4th Grade students (Milepost 3) created a pinboard to celebrate their learning on the Unit Myths and Legends.

Media Magic

Prepa had an amazing Entry Point for the new IPC unit "Media Magic". Ms. Burrows turned her classroom into a real cinema and we watched a movie. We wrote letters to our friends and put them in a mail box and played charades. We learnt about different ways we can communicate: through expressions, writing and acting.

Shaping Up Exit Point

The Grade 3 children from Escuela Británica in El Salvador celebrated the end of their IPC Shaping Up unit with a fantastic morning full of exciting activities. The children enjoyed rotating around four different activities: aerobics, fitness test, fun games, and tasting healthy food.  This involved them consolidating their learning in IPC and Science.

The parents were invited to join in and participate with their children in each one of the activities. Parents and children enjoyed working and learning together.

Buildings Exit Point

Prepa has been learning about buildings and structures. As part of our Exit point, our parents built the city of San Salvador in the school’s playground; they created lots of buildings using boxes for us to play. We came back to school in the afternoon and stayed until it was dark! We saw that our playground had transformed into a city. We played and learnt a lot about buildings and the people that live or work in them. The next day we went on a Sightseeing tour around the city of San Salvador to look at different buildings and structures we learnt throughout this unit. We made different stops and learnt lots of facts about these amazing buildings, for example, who designed the buildings, in which year were they built, how tall are they, etc.

Developing International mindedness

To encourage our children to develop International mindedness we are currently working on an international project with a school in New Jersey, USA. We are in touch with two 2nd Grade classes from Elisabeth Morrow School. Children from 2nd Guzmán and 2nd Mena, from El Salvador, have written friendly letters to children at Elisabeth Morrow School, telling about the differences in school activities, weather, food, etc. between El Salvador and New Jersey. At the same time realising that most of them like the same things and enjoy doing the same activities! We received, via international mail, a box with their mascot, Red, White and Blue Teddy Bear and yesterday, we shipped our school's mascot, Rocky to them!

In IPC Food is fun!

Year 3 children from Academia Británica Cuscatleca have been learning in IPC everything about the unit Shaping Up, including having a healthy and balanced diet. We invited some mothers to help and encourage the children to prepare food in an innovative way using different ingredients. This activity encourage the children to taste new flavours and get excited about healthy food. At the end the children were asked to discuss some of the properties and benefits of the ingredients used. This involved them consolidating their learning and inspired some excellent discussions between them.

IPC Voting Milepost 3

On Friday 8th March children from grades 3 and 4 (next year’s MP3) were given the opportunity to express their views regarding the choice of units for our new IPC route map. After an entertaining presentation from Mrs Avilés, our MP3 coordinator, describing a selection of the units and their learning goals, the children had to choose the five units which they felt would engage them best in their learning and then justify their choices. The "voting slips" were put into a ballot box and later counted up by members of the school council. The final data from the activity is shown in the graph below. The children are very clear that making the final Route Map is the responsibility of the milepost coordinators so as to ensure a balanced curriculum within and between mileposts, but were, nevertheless, very pleased to have been consulted about their future learning and had some useful insights to share with us.
